I converted this Blender model to OR, no material yet, just brut force and using the new Brightness/Contrast shader for the screen shot.
I had to fix many normal errors, and i removed the solar cells, because it makes no sense to have them on a starship flying at the light speed...

foundation3d dot com (http://www.foundation3d.com/) has both .OBJ and .MAX files of this model. (use Search serenity in the Resources->Downloads section of the site)
Unfortunately, the site is awfully slow, almost unaccessible for me and though I've been registered there for quite some time, the download button is not available to me there. They are probably banning the entire Eastern Europe like your hosting provider used to do... ::)
Are you registered with them, and if yes, can you download their models at all?
-
Actually, Serenity was a planet-land-able starship so I think solar panels could be quite usable power sources when on the planet's surface. ;)
-
Foundation3D is almost unaccessible even for me, however after 20 minutes i was able to get the attached file.

!!! THANKS A LOT !!! :)
Are you going to use it instead of your blender model?
-
Here is the resulting turkey, ready for thanks giving :)
-
Are you going to use it instead of your blender model?
No, i shall use the blender one.
-
As a matter of comparison, here is my flying_goose WIP

No, you should add correct bump map paths! :P
:D

Awesome model! Does it have the matching original textures at all?
-
No, i shall use the blender one.
Okay then I'll confine myself to the low-poly version. Please don't work on it! It's all mine! :D
-
Awesome model! Does it have the matching original textures at all?
No, there was none, i have to create them myself.
Something like what i did for Oblivion or Prometheus, based on the use of AO textures.
But i still have to fix several normal errors, rather than using the easy way of "Light both sides" ;)
-
... rather than using the easy way of "Light both sides" ;)
+1 to your karma; "Keep your country tidy" (c) Wrigley's ;D
But in fact contrary to the FFP, PPL two-sided lighting is extremely cheap, GPU-wise. Don't hesitate to use it if you fail with the offending polies.
... based on the use of AO textures.
That low-poly version has AO baked directly into the diffuse textures. If it hadn't, there probably wouldn't be enough VRAM in an ordinary GPU to load them all together. ;)
I will ask you later to create a shadow texture for me if you don't mind. Or better instruct me on how to do it myself in my Photoshop.
-
Ouch!
Ambient Occlusion has been completed.
-
Awesome!!! :o
Yet Patrice, my advice would be to keep the solar panels in their places. The original concept feels sorta brutalized without them. There are a ton of Serenity visuals including detailed blueprints all over the net...
-
Close to full completion…
-
Are we going to see proper insignia on the ship's hull? ;)
-
So far i made a version with my own landing gear...

Stickers...
-
Nice... :)
Are you sure there should be such a "sticker" on top of the ship's hull?
Probably you could use the blueprint attached below to derive a good quality "SerenitY" inscription in white letters across the round decals with Chinese glyphs. There's one written in black at the bottom left corner of the blueprint.
And one more thing: those side bays above the wings with jets have two very suspiciously looking shadows on their floors. The low poly model I have has two arms with clamps protruding from each bay on both sides of the model right above where those shadows are. The arms are evidently intended for deploying the shuttle that Serenity carries in its insides. (see "Shuttle Deployment Arm" in the blueprint below)
Weren't those shadows generated by similar arms that for some reason are now missing from your model? ;)

Here is the release candidate version.
That was a long and hard piece of work… ::)
-
Why do you call it a release candidate?!
It's... it's... it's... MAGNIFICENT!!! :o 8) :-*
Thanks a million for your hard work, my friend! :)
-
The official version has been released, with a few more details and rotor animation.
-
Thank you, my friend, your work is flawless!! :)
I took the liberty to edit the Collection message title because it read "Starfury" instead of "Serenity".
And here's how I'm seeing it on my screen: (cannot go full screen at 100% GPU ;))
-
With such animated background we need some more reactor animation, just like what i did for Oblivion.
-
Hehe, and you say -- final... ;D
-
I think in future, we might also need separate dedicated sets of controls (you know, brightness/hue/saturation/filtering and some such stuff) for the background and the model... 8)
-
Here is the one with the extra jet animation, but i don't know if it's worth it…
-
It's pretty cool and very nice looking. I l-l-l-love it!! :-*
-
OK, here is the one with my preference.
-
Thank you but please read all the messages!
I've uploaded a patch!!! 8)
-
Your preferred one also looks very good! :)
(we're in a bad need of texture matrix animations to improve the looks yet further)
