Galactica
« on: June 16, 2019, 03:52:00 pm »
This is one of the most detailed model i have ever worked on.

I made my own texture set, because the original from CHRIS KUHN (BLEND SWAP) didn't have any.

The model is awesome as always, and I appreciate your tremendous work, my friend! :)

But no, there's a full set of original textures to this model. They are all embedded in the model's binary file. Find them all in the zip attached below. And don't hesitate to ask next time. :)

I don't know where you got these textures, but they can't fit with the model i am using.
They probably have been designed for a low poly mesh version.

Thanks anyway!

My dear friend,

Please don't get so irritated. My intention was not to diminish the great work you did but to help you out with getting as much data out of a .BLEND format model as possible before you even start your WIP. :)

... they can't fit with the model i am using.

They do fit perfectly in the model you're using, of course if only you didn't re-triangulate and/or remap it in order to generate your AO maps in a different 3D editor, which you obviously did working in your C4D instead of Blender. :)

They probably have been designed for a low poly mesh version.

They have been designed for, embedded in, and rendered with, the very model called BattleStar_Galactica_BlendSwap.blend that your downloaded from the BlendSwap site for your WIP.

Below please find a brief tuto I sketched up for you to be able to export them all your own self. It will also serve you as a guide next time you download something from there. (actually I already reached my limit of 25 free DLs for this month  ;D )

Also enjoy BattleStar_Galactica_BlendSwap.obj exported from Blender to match the textures I sent you earlier.

The exported .MAT file has been adjusted a little to enable some basic material texturing.

The screenshot has been taken under CSAA and PP'ed to add contrast to unmodified materials.

P.S. Did you notice the original model carries Kara "Starbuck" Thrace's Viper escorting the mothership? :D

I am really allergic to Blender, i think to remember that there is an easier way to export the textures all in one, rather than doing one by one (must retrieve how to do it).

Yes, i removed them because i wanted to focus only on the mother ship.

I had to triangulate the model to avoid artefacts in OR, they are hard to detect without a close inspection of the individual meshes.

So far, with the version i have, AO is the only way to produce nice shadowing effects.

I prefer my own set of textures, especially the GALACTICA text logo, however i shall use the landing strip emit to enhance mine.

I have attached a "pacifica" version that was downloaded from Foundation3D that you can't access yourself.

OK I got your point.

Thanks for the Pacifica model! Looks like it might turn out no worse than Galactica in the end.

Would you care to give it a try? :)

Here is the requested Pacifica, the artefacts is because the original model uses quads (not perfectly translated to triangles in OR).

Thanks, I can export FBX/OBJ from LightWave without a problem, at least partially even if not always correctly, textured and without backfacing artifacts.

But how come you got an LWS/LWOs into your C4D at all? :o

Mine looks better, obviously.  ;)

I have merged all the individual .lwo into a new C4D project_ Then exported the resulting model as .obj file into accutrans to mix all the meshes using the same material, then run an utility i wrote to split all the meshes into individual materials to avoid their mixing once reloaded again into C4D for editing purpose.

Could you create the textures of the "Rigged Raven" from this Blend project

I'm afraid, I won't be able to confirm that. ;)  (see untextured screenies below)

Do you mean to say you have an LWO importer in your C4D? :o

I could but if only you would DL the .blend archive for me. I said I had already exhausted my monthly limit for free downloads in June. They allow only 25 free downloads per month (edit: on their site), and then you have to either buy a premium account or live with an "insufficient bandwidth" notification till the 1st of next month. ;)

This is because i didn't reworked the model, but i am very accustumed to this problem, and i know how to solve it.
(the normal misalignment is the result of the ACCUTRANS stage where several distinct meshes are melted together, no problem if using only C4D)

Here is the RavenBlendSwap.blend project

Regretfully, Save All (textures) doesn't work and is grayed out. Probably because there are a few embedded textures missing from the model. Namely, the four textures pertaining to the model's middle part aren't available although enumerated in the list. See them missing in the Blender render below. :(

All the other major textures (apart from a couple of likewise inaccessible small auxiliary gradients) have been exported one-by-one as I described earlier, and are attached in the archive.

The model textures, albeit huge in size, are still rather primitive. I've no doubt you'll be able to easily create the missing diffuse texture from scratch using the original color palette and mimicking the army-style patterns of the other maps, and then have CrazyBump to reconstruct specular (= roughness if you invert its grayscale colors) and normal maps from it as usual.

Nobody's gonna notice. ;)

(My friend, I'm afraid I'll have to go out of town for a few days this afternoon. I'll be back home hopefully by Friday night, and will be available for hobbying again throughout the coming weekend.)
